Compulsory Modules
EB2501 Advanced English for Business Communication 2
This module aims to:
- enable students to achieve a level of proficiency in English equivalent to CEF high B2 with particular emphasis on Business English;
- develop students’ knowledge and skills in business communication and public relations
- enable students to produce, present and interpret an increasingly wide range of business communication documents and operate effectively in an increasingly wide range of interactive, intercultural business communication contexts;
- enable students to explore, develop and practise an increasingly sophisticated portfolio of transferable, cognitive skills
- encourage students to research possible career opportunities and prepare appropriate planning and application documentation to meet their goals.
EB2600 Advanced English Language Skills for English for International Corporate Communication
This module aims to:
- develop and refine students’ knowledge and abilities in the analysis and production of English texts to the high standard required in professional contexts
- consolidate and extend students’ knowledge of English grammar, particularly the advanced structures necessary for their future professional and academic development
- consolidate and extend students’ knowledge of English pronunciation and different phonemic varieties of English in the global context
- develop the high level of oral, aural, and writing skills needed to function effectively in a wide variety of international business contexts.
EB3101 International Corporate Communication for Global Business
This modules aims to:
- examine and raise critical awareness of recurrent themes and issues in international corporate communication;
- develop transferable corporate communication skills in International English for speakers of English as a second or additional language;
- underpin topics covered in other modules on the course with relevant language and communication skills;
- encourage and refine personal development planning with emphasis on techniques and strategies to facilitate language learning both inside and outside the classroom.
EB3102 Culture and Business in International Corporate Communication
This module aims to:
- develop and strengthen awareness of the nature of cross-cultural communication and develop cross-cultural sensitivity, with particular reference to international interaction in English;
- develop skills in critical analysis of international perspectives on the use of English in a variety of professional, cultural and social contexts;
- underpin topics covered in other modules on the course with relevant language and communication skills work;
- develop knowledge of registers and genres in English, appropriate to various cultural environments and professional fields;
- encourage and refine personal development planning with emphasis on language learning both inside and outside the classroom.

Marketing
EB2209 Marketing and Advertising Communication
This module aims to:
- enable students to understand the role of Marketing & Advertising in an international setting.
- enable students to extend their range of Marketing and Business terminology.
- enhance students’ research and analytical skills.
EB3209 Advertising around the World for International Business Communication 
The module aims to:
- enable students to compare and contrast the different styles of advertising in an international context with reference to such considerations as: cultural attitudes, laws, language, celebrities, etc.
- enable students to use appropriate Marketing and Business terminology flexibly and effectively.
- enhance students’ team work, research and analytical skills.
MK3120 Media Planning and Buying 
This module was informed by in-depth research with key personnel in advertising agencies, media agencies and other companies delivering advertising and marketing communications products and services. It provides students with the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the skills and attitudinal set that will enhance their employability in the industry, and also offers exposure to and practice in some of the tasks they would regularly perform in an entry-level position in an agency. The aim is to give them a sound foundation to make them ‘fit for purpose’ and ready for practice upon graduation.
Specifically, this module aims to provide students with an introduction to the theory and practice of media planning and buying, and to demonstrate how media specialists help advertisers and marketers to achieve the most cost-effective access to target markets and achieve their marketing objectives.
Translation & Interpreting
CL2301 Introduction to Translation and Interpreting
This module aims to:
- introduce students to relevant aspects in basic translation and interpretation theories
- increase students’ awareness of the differences between Chinese and English
- develop skills for aural comprehension
- increase students’ confidence and effectiveness in speaking in front of an audience
- help students to keep up with the latest development in concepts and terminology
- prepare students to take up Translation and/or Interpreting at level 6.
CL3003 Theory and Practice of Interpreting
This module aims to:
- introduce students to basic interpreting techniques;
- develop students’ understanding of linguistic appropriateness; and
- enable students to develop communicative language skills in English and Chinese.
CL3004 Theory and Practice of Translation
This module aims to:
- provide an insight into the techniques used by the translator and key contemporary translation theories
- develop students’ translation skills between Chinese and English
- raise students’ awareness of differences between Chinese and English that are important for the translator
- prepare students for future language activities.
Additional Modules
EB3012 Workplace English for Business
This module aims to:
- provide students with a critical awareness of relevant theoretical concepts and models as a framework for understanding and evaluating UK management and business culture and practice;
- provide an opportunity for students to apply and review their understanding against the realities of the UK workplace environment through a short work-placement;
- develop CV, job search and application and other related transferable skills.
EB3701 Principles of Human Resource Management for International Business Communication 
This module aims:
- develop a critical understanding of Human Resource Management concepts, frameworks and models.
- develop the ability to utilise Human Resource Management models and frameworks as tools of analysis of contemporary human resource issues.
