Job Searching Tips:

 

Step 1: Job Search

 

 

  • Job Listings
    Searching a job through magazine, newspaper, job listing and other websites that may be related to the kind of work you are looking for.

  • Job Search Help
    Seek help from the CityU SCOPE Career Support Centre, Labour Department and NGOs employment services.

  • Recruitment Activities
    Join the job fairs and recruitment day in-person or online.

  • Networking
    Expand your social network by joining alumni associations, students clubs, chambers of commerce and professional associations that are related to your field of work and meet people there. Participate in volunteer activities also provide you with good opportunities for career exploration.

 

 

Step 2: Job Application

 

 

  • Prepare your appropriate CV and covering letter, fill in the application form (if any) and sumbit them to the target companies.

 

 

Step 3: Interview Preparing

 

 

  • Reharsal
    Perpare the interview questions about yourself, the company and the job. Practice more with your friends or schoolmates before the interview.

  • Interview Questions
    - About yourself: personality, interests, ability and experience, etc.
    - About the employer: vision and mission, company nature, corporate culture, future development
    - About the industry: industrial trend, challenges, development

  • Behavioral interview
    - Employers use behavioral interview to get insight into how you handle specific situations in the workplace. The interviewer will want examples of what happened in a particularly challenging circumstance, what you did, and how you achieved a positive outcome.

 

Step 4: Interview Etiquette

 

 

For Male students:

 

  • Dress in a manner that is professional appropriate to the position for which you are applying. In almost all cases, this means wearing a suit. "Suit: means the works": a matching jacket and pants, dress shirt, tie, coordinating socks and dress shoes. A dark-colored suit with light colored shirt is your best option.

  • Your suit should be comfortable and fit you well so that you look and act your best.
  • Avoid loud colors and flashy ties.
  • Clothing should be neat, clean, and pressed.
  • Your hair should be neat, clean and conservative styled.
 

For Female students:

 
  • interview suit should be comforable and fit you well. Suits should be simple and dark in color. Anything tight, bright, short, or sheer should absolutely be avoided.
  • Wear a conservative blouse with your suit. Do not wear bright colors, animal prints, or anything lacy, sheer, or low-cut.
  • Make-up and nail polish should be understated and flattering; shades that are neutral to your skin tone are generally advisable. Avoid bright or unusual colors or very long nails.
  • Keep your jewelry and hair accessories to a minimum, and stick to those that are not flasht, distracting, or shiny.
  • Shoes should be conservative and fairly low-heeled. Don't wear shoes with an open toe or back.
  • Your hose should be neutral (matched to your skin tone).
  • Your hair should be neat, clean, and conservatively styled
