While I already had a keen interest in psychology, this course broadened my social science knowledge through a wide range of modules under the social science discipline, including sociology and politics. It opened my mind to the field and enabled me to make a more informed decision about the path I wanted to pursue after graduation. The Work Placement module was also valuable as it provided me with an opportunity to work in a reputable organisation and apply my classroom learning to a real work setting. The great support provided by my supervisor allowed me to gain further from this experience. I was encouraged to reflect constantly, which proved beneficial in my daily life and the workforce. Furthermore, choosing the Applied Dissertation module gave me a chance to conduct independent research on a topic I was interested in. With the help of my supervisor, the process was well-structured and ran smoothly.

I found great interest in various discipline topics throughout my study and felt intrinsically motivated to learn. Through countless projects and assignments, I have learned how to be resourceful. I found great joy in “piecing together the puzzle” and learning to identify different perspectives and ways of viewing things and events.

I have also gained insights on reflecting on myself at different points of life through the studies of various social science disciplines, specifically how certain life events have shaped who I am now. I better understood my personality and identified my strengths and weaknesses. I learned to acknowledge my flaws and sought to put them to good use. I learned to initiate the change process, not blindly follow it. With the subject-based knowledge and skills I have gained throughout the course, I sought to become a better version of myself for years to come.

This programme offered me an opportunity to learn about law, politics and sociology. All in all, these three years at SCOPE gave me a practical and well-rounded experience which would always be valuable to me.

CityU SCOPE is where I discovered my interest and passion in social science. Not only did I benefit from getting to know the wide range of issues and perspectives covered in the programme, but I was also inspired to deepen my knowledge in psychology through studying a master’s degree.
