Programme Aims
The programme aims to provide students with a coherent and vocationally relevant academic curriculum, designed to equip students for employment as an accounting professional in industry and for a variety of responsible posts within the financial services industry.
Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of this programme of study, students will have:

A sound knowledge and understanding of how accounting, finance and financial services are related and the business/financial institution relationships.

A critical understanding of the established theories, principles and concepts, and emerging issues in accounting, finance and financial services.

A systematic, extensive and comparative knowledge and understanding of the accountant’s role in providing tactical and strategic support in the areas of reporting, decision-making, planning, control and performance measurement.

A sound knowledge and understanding of the financial services environment and a variety of specialist disciplines including financial services marketing and corporate risk management measurement.
Skills and Other Attributes
On completion of this programme of study, students will have developed the ability to:
- Structure and communicate ideas effectively, both in writing and orally, using appropriate media.
- Collate information, using analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret that information and draw reasonable conclusions
- Use interpersonal, communication and other transferable skills to contribute effectively in a business situation.
Programme Features
Dual Themes: Accounting & Finance
Features a blend of specialized accounting and finance subjects that provides vocationally useful and academically rigorous education in accounting and finance fields.
Highly Practical
Provides opportunities for students to develop their critical, analytical, evaluative and reflective approaches to accounting and finance.
Accelerated Mode of Study
Students can complete the programme study in 12 months (part-time) with an extra one module in trimester
Study Exchange programme/ Continuing Honours Study Option
Students have the option to apply for studying ACR and CFM modules in ENU, UK in Trimester 2. Futher, students can apply to continue studying for honours degree in ENU, UK.
Programme Delivery@
The programme will mainly be delivered through intensive face-to-face lectures conducted by the academic staff from Edinburgh Napier University and CityU SCOPE and supported by tutorials taught by local tutors.
@Please note that due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, some delivery details may be changed in response to contemporary situation. In particular, ENU staff are not able to travel to Hong Kong and live video lectures will replace fily-in lectures.
Assessment and Award
For each of the main modules, the programme is normally based on a weighting of coursework and examinations. A student will be awarded the BA Accounting and Finance conferred by Edinburgh Napier University when he/she has sucessfully completed the programme in accordance with the programme requirements.
Student Support
Students registered in the programme will be issued a CityU SCOPE Student ID Card and an Edinburgh Napier University Matriculation Card. Services provisions include access to CityU’s Run Run Shaw Library, Computing Services Centre, University’s e-Portal, electronic services and student LAN, as well as electronic resources provided by Edinburgh Napier University.
Venue
Classes will be held in SCOPE@CityU (Kowloon Tong), SCOPE TST East Learning Centre (Tsim Sha Tsui) or other learning centres/off-campus venues designated by CityU SCOPE.
Further Study Opportunities
Graduates of this programme may proceed to attain professional qualifications in accounting (e.g. ACCA qualification) and/or finance (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst qualification), or to pursue postgraduates studies in a range of business disciplines in local or overseas universities.

Programme Structure#
The BA Accounting and Finance programme consists of a total 360 credits. In Hong Kong, students will articulate into this programme from relevant sub-degree programmes and be required to complete 140 credits.

# Edinburgh Napier University and CityU SCOPE reserve the right to vary the programme structure from time to time.
These courses have been included in the list of reimbursable courses for Continuing Education Fund purposes. The mother programme [BA Accounting and Finance] of these courses is recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level 5).
Exemption^
Based on prior specialism (accounting or non-accounting major), applicants will be allocated by the programme leader to study:
- Accounting & Financial Management, or
- Financial Institutions, Markets and Services
Associate Degree/ Higher Diploma graduates who have completed equivalent modules in their prior study may apply for exemption of one of the following modules:
- Hong Kong Taxation
- Corporate Risk Management
^Exemption will normally be considered and granted for the modules/courses studied in the last five years and are modules/courses of comparable and equivalent standard.
